  1. Where two of a maker's own documents give different figures, both are printed and neither is reconciled. The ◆ marks the figure the second document gives.
  2. Mockmill 100 and Mockmill 200 print the same hopper capacity and the same housing material. Motor, milling rate and weight are what differ.
  3. Two mills have no motor of their own. The KitchenAid attachment runs off a stand mixer's power hub, mixer sold separately; the Country Living mill is hand-cranked.
  4. Mills are grouped by the mechanism their own documents describe, never by power. VEVOR's manual describes one stationary and one moving grinding plate, so it sits with the steel-burr mills at 1500 W.
  5. Warranty terms stated in years are printed in years. Three makers add a lifetime term for particular parts, and a lifetime has no length to compare.
  6. Weights are printed in the unit each maker publishes and are not converted. VEVOR does not state whether 58.2 lb is net or shipping; KitchenAid publishes a net weight of 0 lbs, an evident placeholder, so its gross weight is printed.
  7. Where a maker publishes nothing for an attribute the cell prints an em dash and the document that was read and did not carry it. An em dash is an absence, not a fault.
  8. Documented counts how many of ten attributes each maker publishes. It rates the paperwork, not the mill, and a fully documented mill is not a better mill.
  9. Each photograph is its maker's own, trimmed to the object, scaled inside one 672 px box and stood on one floor line. Two were cut out of composites: the WonderMill from a shot shared with bread loaves, and the VEVOR from a marketplace collage — its loose grain and beans were removed, the corn left in the hopper is the maker's own framing. The NutriMill Classic still carries the maker's grey studio backdrop; a re-cut was attempted twice and would have cut into the mill, so the plate is left as the maker published it.
  10. The documents each row was read from are named under the model name. The document behind each individual figure is printed beside that figure on the mill's own page.

The four figures that separate these mills

Four build-time charts, each drawn only from the values in the table above. Where makers publish different units, the panels are split and nothing is converted.

Published hopper capacity
Published hopper capacity in two panels, cups and grams, with no shared axis and no conversion between them. Where a maker's own two documents give different figures, both are printed.
Every milling rate a maker publishes
The three makers that publish a milling rate, printed in the unit each of them used. Ounces a minute, grams a minute and kilograms an hour are different measurements, so the figures are printed and no bar is drawn.
Published warranty term
Warranty terms stated in years, drawn as bars. A lifetime term has no length and a term printed in months is not converted, so both print as words on the same baseline.
Published weight, in each maker's own unit
Published weight in two panels, pounds and kilograms, with no conversion between them. The two figures their makers hedge are printed beside their own bars.

Five figures you cannot compare across these mills

Five figures a buyer would use. No maker here prints two of them at all, and each of the other three is printed by one or two makers in a form nothing else can be set against. Each row says what the documents give instead.

  1. A noise level in decibels

Printed by 1 of the 9, not comparably

Only KoMo's German product page prints one: about 70 dB for spelt at a fine setting, with no distance or method. VEVOR's manual says only to wear ear protectors, and the other seven print nothing, so loudness cannot be compared across the set. Impact against stone burr.

  2. A flour temperature with its conditions

Printed by 2 of the 9, not comparably

Two makers print a figure: NutriMill about 118°F for the Classic, and WonderMill an average of about 115 degrees. Neither states a grain, a run length, a room temperature or a method, so the two cannot be set against each other. What changes in fresh-milled flour.

  3. A moisture limit for milling

    None of the 9 mills

Country Living's manual gives 10% or less moisture as storage guidance for grain, not as a limit for the mill. The others name ingredients instead: permitted lists, excluded lists, and in NutriMill's two manuals a quarter-cup test to run before committing a batch. What you can and cannot mill.

  4. A fineness figure two mills share

Printed by 2 of the 9, not comparably

VEVOR prints 80 mesh for dry corn only, and KoMo prints finer than 0.3 mm under a measuring method it does not state. The other adjustable mills publish a lever scale or a knob face instead, so no two mills' finest settings can be set against each other. How to mill your own flour.

  5. An energy figure in kilowatt-hours

    None of the 9 mills

Rated wattage is what the makers publish, and a rating is not a measured draw. The motor-power chart on the homepage prints every rating and says so on its own face. How a specification gets onto this site.
